Design problem
A boutique hotel in open countryside, where the new buildings had to settle into nature and the local way of building rather than stand out.
Key decision
Work from the local architecture, and hold every unit to the same small set of natural materials.
Solution
Comfortable rooms with modern amenities, outdoor rooms that carry the plan into the garden, and environmentally conscious choices throughout: a stay that rests rather than performs.

Dark split stone, warm timber soffits and full-height glass, used with the same discipline on every unit.

Spatial plan
A sunken seating area around a fire, a water edge and a timber canopy that carries the roof out into the garden.
