Design problem
A seafront hotel facing the sun and the promenade: the rooms needed shade and privacy without losing the sea.
Key decision
Layer the facade instead of closing it: timber screens between the balconies, planted terraces in front of them.
Solution
Every room has a shaded balcony of its own facing the bay, and the layered facade gives the building a calm, even rhythm on the seafront by day and by night.
Exterior
Light
At night a line of light traces every balcony frame, and the facade reads as a lantern on the seafront.
Spatial plan
A roof terrace above, and a ground floor that opens onto the palm garden and the restaurant terrace.
Video
Short film made from the project's images.
